Access control gate system
For a construction-site access control provider, we engineered a turnstile and infrared-barrier gate system that keeps admitting the right people even when the network or hardware fails — and reports compliantly to the national authority. We built the on-site intelligence and now support the product as technical advisors.
- Construction-site gates must never stop — even when the network drops or hardware misbehaves.
- Access decisions and authority reporting still have to work fully offline.
- Different sites use different gate hardware — turnstiles and infrared barriers.
- Faults on unattended equipment are hard to detect and recover from remotely.
- Keep gates operational and making correct decisions while offline.
- Run fully decentralised, with no single point of failure.
- Recover automatically from network and hardware faults.
- Support multiple gate hardware types from one system.
- Integrate compliantly with the NAV Üvegkapu authority system.
We built an on-site controller that acts like a local mini-server: it makes passage decisions locally when the cloud is unreachable, then syncs events and images back once online. A modular controller architecture drives different gate hardware, monitors peripherals and recovers from faults automatically — with certified NAV Üvegkapu reporting built in. The same architecture can run fully decentralised: every terminal operates independently, so there is no single point of failure.
Access & identification
- QR-code identification at every gate, with standard USB HID reader support
- Bidirectional control — independent entry and exit flows
- Multiple gate types supported: rotary turnstiles and infrared-barrier gates
- Clear feedback: pass / deny lamps, read indicators, beeper and alarm horn
- Photo capture on each passage via dedicated entry and exit cameras
Offline-first reliability
- Fully decentralised operation — each terminal runs independently, with no single point of failure
- On-site controller makes passage decisions locally when the cloud is unreachable
- Gates stay fully operational in standalone offline mode
- Two-way cloud sync — downloads updates, uploads offline events and images
- Guest passages honoured even while offline
Fault tolerance & safety
- Automatic detection and recovery of hardware and communication faults
- Continuous peripheral monitoring and system-state handling
- Terminal Guard watchdog — power-cycles an unresponsive terminal to restore it
- Hardware consumption control — reader current monitoring for fault and tamper detection
- Demo mode with peripheral simulation for safe installation and testing
Authority integration
- Certified NAV Üvegkapu integration with worker master-data association
- Automated, compliant reporting of passage events to the authority
- Manages the daily passage of thousands of people across construction sites.
- Keeps working and reporting even during network or hardware faults.
- Certified, automated reporting to the NAV Üvegkapu authority.
- We engineered the system and continue to support it as technical advisors.
